Arts Education Beyond the Classroom

Afterschool enrichment programs especially those connected to schools provide academic support and creative outlets in a safe environment. They reinforce classroom learning while promoting teamwork and problem-solving skills. Children in these programs tend to excel academically and stay engaged. Overall, they help foster confidence and develop lifelong interests. Here are a list of After-School enrichment program SODE is offering in 2025. *These classes are also offered for day camps and workshops. 

Dance

Acro

SODE Acro is recommended for movers who are interested in gymnastic, dance and acrobatics. The class introduces basic Acro skills for performance while focusing on developing mind-body awareness, strength, flexibility, balance, musicality and coordination. Get ready to sweat, play and have fun! 

HIP HOP Dance 

 After-school dance has never been more fun! Join SODE School of Performing Arts for weekly, high-energy Hip Hop lessons taught by industry professionals. Groove to the latest beats, learn cutting edge choreography and get a work out while having fun! 

Petit Ballet

TK and Kinder students will enjoy learning to move to music in a class especially designed just for their developmental needs. This class combines ballet basics, fun “easy to follow” ballet warm-ups, expressive choreography, dance games and creative dance. Our little dancers will be able to express themselves, connect to movement and explore story telling through movement. This is a great way to introduce your little mover to the wonderful world of dance! 

Tap 101

SODE’s beginner tap classes, introduces new tappers to rhythmic work, preparatory steps and fun dance sequences. We introduce technique in a fun and inspiring way by using games and props. We focus on musicality, phrasing and terminology which we incorporate when we’re exploring choreography. We touch on different tap genres and styles and aim to send your child home fast foot and fancy free. (All students must provide their own tap shoes.) 

Creative Dance Theater/ Percussion

This class is custom made for Pre-K/Kindergarten students. It starts off with a creative movement class where students explore space, music and choreography. Then, the students will jump into Theater games and voice work. Lastly, students will work on a visual arts projects that encourages creative exploration! 

Island Magic 

Calling all young travelers! Take a trip with SODE School of Performing Arts and explore a different Polynesian Island each week. There, our little world travelers will learn traditional dances, songs and create art inspired by the beauty and culture of these beautiful islands. 

Polynesian Dance 101 

Aloha! SODE is excited to be sharing our new Polynesian dance class created perfectly for Keiki (small children). In this class, students will learn about the culture of Hawaii by learning the Hula, Maori Dance, Poi dance drills and even Tahitian dance. With the help of authentic music, art, vocabulary and props, boys and girls will not only gain a deeper appreciation for Polynesian dance but they will feel like they’ve just spent an hour vacationing in Hawaii. 

Yoga Adventure

Yoga is the gate way to mindfulness and inner peace but did you know that you can use Yoga to time travel? That’s right! Time travel to “Your Perfect Place”. This after school enrichment class allows young yogis to work on their practice while focusing on visualization and theatrical play. Through storytelling, inversions and animal poses, our students will gain a whole new appreciation for joyful, in the moment living. During the semester, they will explore mediation games, breath work and story boarding. No Yoga class would be complete without using music, drama and games to dig deeper in our practice. Namaste! 

Dancing with the SODE Stars 

This class has a little bit of everything for everyone. You like Hip Hop? Jazz? Salsa? Bollywood? This class has it all. Come ready to learn something new each class because every week SODE School of Performing Arts will teach a different dance style! *Option to focus on Bollywood, Salsa or Flamenco.

Musical Theater DANCE Workshop

(also offered for elementary school age kids) 

SODE's musical theater dance workshop is where rhythm meets the stage! Join us after school for an electrifying experience, perfect for middle and high school students. Dive into dynamic choreography, learn iconic routines, and explore various dance styles from Broadway to hip-hop. With skilled instructors and a supportive atmosphere, every dancer can shine and grow. Build confidence, coordination, and stage presence while making unforgettable memories with friends. From auditions to spotlight performances, SODE's workshop is your ticket to the big stage! Don't miss out – join us and let your passion for dance take center stage! 

ART

Art for the Busy Mind 

Managing emotions and behavior is key to student success. Figuring tricks and tips to do so takes time. However, one element that’s proven to help clear busy minds is engaging students to participate in meaningful art projects. SODE’S Art for the Busy Mind encourages children’s creative learning, by providing curated social emotional art lessons that promotes out of box thinking and inspires students to take a lead in their own creative paths. Art for the Busy Mind allows students to focus on creation, color and collaboration, tools they can use to calm the busy mind. 

Kinder Creative

Kreative Kids let’s students create their own worlds using finger paints, quick-drying clay, pencils, pastels and so much more! This intro to art class is structured to help young artist work on their fine motor skills and encourages them to explore their creative sides by using different types of art material. Every week the students will work on two projects; one that is guided by the art teacher and the other is independent art where students might use art material they’ve never used before. Kreative Kids gives students the opportunity to find creative freedom in visual arts! 

Clay/Pottery 

Each week students will explore what kind of cool stuff you can do with CLAY. By using project-based art, our artists will learn clay fundamentals like hand-building techniques, pinching pots, and even use a pottery wheel to create pieces bowls, plates and plant holders. Students will be encouraged to use their creativity to create their own unique clay filled worlds! 

Recycled Art (Instrument Making Lab)

Did you know that you can build a harmonica using popsicle sticks and rubber bands? It’s pretty amazing what kind of interesting instruments you can make by using recycled material found in your community. This weekly art class combines our love for science, our appreciation for music and passion for visual arts to create neat, earth friendly instruments, THAT ACTUALY WORK. 

Elements in Visual Arts

This new program invites kids to explore the four elements—earth, water, fire, and air—through creative, hands-on art projects that blend science with imagination. Using natural materials, colors, and textures, students create artworks that capture the qualities of each element, from the movement of water to the warmth of fire. Through projects like painting, sculpture, and craft-making, children will experiment with different forms and techniques, gaining a deeper appreciation for the natural world. This engaging program encourages curiosity and creativity, helping young learners connect with the environment in a fun, artistic way.

Music and voice

Contemporary Choir

 SODE's Contemporary Choir is the perfect place for kids of all ages to get involve in ensemble voice work. Taught by experienced choir director and musical directors, Contemporary Choir will guide young singers through a contemporary music repertoire while “hitting” some musical theater hits. Imagine Pitch Perfect meets choral work but for kids! Contemporary Choir may also involve basic choreography (also known as “Armography”, harmony work and performance opportunity.) 

SODE Private Music Lessons  

Our 30-minute private piano lessons are fun, easy and convenient, because we go to your school campus! We believe that all students should learn at their own pace and our experienced, classically trained piano teachers, help your aspiring pianist learn without struggling with the structures of traditional techniques. Piano players of all ages and abilities are welcomed, starting as young as kindergarten. We believe that music should be explored and enjoyed by EVERYONE. (Some private classes may require purchase of a theory/music book.)

Drumming Circle

Not only is this a class made to channel that toe tapping energy but it’s also one that teaches community connection and mindfulness through different hand drumming styles, improvisation and percussion work. Drummers will learn to lead a drumming circle, explore international music and create their own songs. (SODE provides the percussions.) 

Group Ukulele

The best thing about SODE’s Group Ukulele lessons is that it gives students the opportunity to learn a new instrument while hanging out with friends. This class teaches technique for basic chord strumming and also teaches tricks for easy fingerpicking. Students in this class will be exposed to ukulele classic songs and style as well as explore other styles like blues, folk and contemporary. No previous musical experience needed! Just an openness to learn and play! 

Steam

Drama WITH REPTILES

We are thrilled to partner with a top reptile company to bring you an exciting fusion of performing arts and the animal kingdom! Dive into a wild, hands-on adventure where creativity meets nature. This interactive class is perfect for animal lovers of all ages, offering a unique chance to learn about fascinating reptiles while exploring the art of movement, storytelling, and expression. Get ready to connect with amazing creatures, unleash your inner performer, and discover the magic where the stage meets the wild!

Foodie Fun 

SODE’s Foodie Fun is a healthy-option cooking class for kids of all ages. In this after-school class, students will learn about healthy choices, nutrition and creative snack options that are both fun and delicious. Each class will begin by introducing the snack, briefly discussing its nutritious components, learn about the tools used to prepare them and of course, devour the food! Students will also be given a journal where they can keep track of their favorite recipes. Yum! 

Robotics 

SODE’s Robotics uses science, creation and fun to build and code robots. Students use kid friendly software, tablets and robot parts to create their own robot. We introduce students to robot design and computer programming using basic machine principles to create robots capable of performing simple tasks. This class is perfect for tinkerers, tech-savvy kids and gamers. 

Dungeons and Dragon Club 

Forge battle-tested bonds, meet all kinds of interesting characters, and go on age appropriate action-packed adventures in our Dungeons & Dragons Club. This class encourages creative play and pushes the limits of the imagination while encountering bizarre monsters and contributing to interactive creative play lead by expert a SODE Game Master. D & D is not only a thrilling game, but it’s also one that helps develop mathematic skills, puts textural literacy into practice and encourages self-reflection. (No experience is required to join our Dungeons & Dragons Club. Don’t worry, we will adapt the traditional rules in order to make it more approachable to children of most elementary ages but students must be 4th grade and up.) 

Mud Fun! 

When it comes to mud play, why not let kids FEEL what they are learning about. Mud Fun! Allows young students to experiment with new ideas and create new play schemes. Solve problems and enjoy the process of learning about the earth, insects and environment while getting dirty. Give your child the opportunity to get muddy, create imaginary worlds in a stem class that opens minds, dirty hands and might even stain clothes. It’s good for them! 

Young Engineers: Builders Program

SODE’s Young Engineers: Builders Program is a dual language and steam class that gives children the opportunity to conceptualize, create and collaborate on a building project, using dual-language, graph paper, foam material, mats and soft blocks. The goal of this program is to encourage students to create big ideas and then to see them through to completion all awhile learning a new language. The class is divided in three sections; the concept, “the maquette” and the execution. While these young engineers learn the basic process to structural engineering and design, they are also being introduced to a new language by incorporating it into the weekly theme. (*This is a bilingual, (English-speaking/taught) class that introduces French or Spanish language to students by using basic vocabulary, shapes, numbers and colors that supports the weekly building theme. Presently only being offered in French and English.) 

French Culture

Parlez-vous Français ? That’s okay, we’ll teach you. Our SODE Professor de Français, immerses the students in French culture by playing popular contemporary French music, read French stories, share authentic French food, read French news and even watch some French cartoons. Students will learn the French alphabet, body parts, days of the week and everything they need to know in order to order a pain au chocolat , in French next time they visit their favorite French bakery. 

Stop-Motion

This stop motion kids’ class is the perfect introduction to the magical art of stop motion! With the help of an industry professional and who happens to be a SODE teaching artist, students will learn every important step on how to create an amazing stop-motion project. The first few classes will encourage the kids to create a basic script and to create their very own Claymation characters. Once the groundwork is done, that’s when the filming begins using kid friendly stop motion cameras and software.*Must bring Chromebook 

Theater

Big Top Circus

Step right up, young adventurers, to the most thrilling circus class in town! Join us for a whirlwind of excitement as we dive into the magical world of juggling, tightrope walking, clowning, and acrobatics! But wait, there's more! Dive into interactive games and challenges that will test your coordination and balance, all while having a blast with your fellow classmates! And don't forget the grand finale – a mini circus performance where you'll shine like a true star and showcase your newfound talents to the world!

Magic Mayhem

Magic Masters is the perfect magic class for anyone intrigued with the wonderful world of Magic. In this class, your child will learn magic tricks, practice their public speaking skills, explore illusions and enhance their own Magician pedigree. Come with one trick up your sleeve and leave with many more! 

Play Rehearsal

Book the role and play the part! Play Rehearsal is everything you want in an after-school theater program. Once a short comedic play has been selected by the SODE Theater Director and the class, everyone will have an opportunity to audition for a role. The best part Is that everyone gets cast in a role! Every week the director will work with the cast, build simple props and set pieces. At the end of the semester, the cast will be ready to perform for friends and family. Break a leg! 

Stage Combat and Sabre Play

This class is perfect for the young Shakespearian actor, the aspiring musketeer and even for the next Jedi. In our Youth Sword and Sabre Play class, students learn age-appropriate sword fighting techniques for safe play and for the stage. Starting with pool noodle swords, our mindful Knights, build confidence and control in both attack and defense but mostly, the will be able to sell any stage combat fighting scene like Hollywood pros. 

Comedic Improv

SODE’s Comedic Improv is the perfect class to polish off your funny bones. In this class, students will have the opportunity to let loose, get silly and use their imagination to create hilariously smart scenes and memorable characters. Our young improvisers will be able to not only apply their new acquired improv skills towards their acting chops but in everyday life situations, as they gain self-confidence, become quick thinkers and out of the box problem solvers. 

Musical Theater Workshop (Triple Threat) 

Step into the spotlight with SODE's musical theater workshop! Unleash your inner performer as you sing, dance, and act your heart out! Dive into the world of Broadway with fun-filled activities, vocal exercises, and scene rehearsals. Explore a variety of musical genres and styles while building confidence and stage presence. With experienced instructors and supportive peers, every session is a chance to shine and grow as a performer. From audition tips to show-stopping performances, SODE's workshop is the perfect stage for aspiring stars! Join us after school and let your talent take center stage! 

Musical Theater

This musical theater class will allow performers to use their voice, body and theatric expression to explore the wonderful world of BROADWAY! These young triple threats, will immerse themselves in old Broadway classics as well as sink their teeth in the newest musical hits. 5-6-7-8! 

Shakespeare Shenanigans 

(middle and high school) We call this after-school workshop, ‘Playshops’ because it’s more like play than work! Students will gain new insights into Shakespeare’s relevance while experiencing the power of his language through text, work, stage combat and renaissance dance. New this year: Students will watch a professional actor perform a Shakespearean monologue or scene work. 

Theater 101

 SODE’s Theater 101 is designed to engage the young actor in the NOW. Our acting classes, invites students to use their imagination to ground themselves in their character, expand their senses while using the space, and build their work from the inside out by asking the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How of a character. Actors get to also touch on improv basics, creative play and if time permits, might even work on monologue writing. 

SODE’S Yes And…Comedic Improv 

SODE’s Comedic Improv is the perfect class to polish off your funny bones. In this class, students will have the opportunity to let loose, get silly and use their imagination to create hilariously smart scenes and memorable characters. Our young improvisers will be able to not only apply their new acquired improv skills towards their acting chops but in everyday life situations, as they gain self-confidence, become quick thinkers and out of the box problem solvers. 

Theater: Past, Present and Future

This class is perfect for the experienced actor who has a desire to dive deeper in his craft by working with olde text, present day material and exploring the world of experimental theater. Past: Actors will work on Shakespearean soliloquys and scenes. Present: Actors will work scenes from modern day Broadway plays. Future: Actors will explore the world of absurd theater and create their own experimental theater pieces. 

Sports

Figure Skating for Beginners 

Discover the joy of figure skating at SODE School of Performing Arts! Our new youth beginner figure skating classes is now offered as an exciting afterschool activity on Wednesdays for our LILA students at the Burbank campus. Students will learn fundamental skills, build confidence, and have fun on the ice in a supportive environment guided by industry leading skating coaches. Join us for an enchanting (and refreshing) experience that combines athleticism, artistic expression and fun. 

Fun Field Games

SODE’s FFG class invites your child to tumble, toss, throw, roll, riff and run. It’s the best parts of recess all wrapped up into one fun after-school class. In FFG, our students will have the opportunity to learn and play field games like Capture the Flag, Soccer, T-Ball, Crazy Tag and so much more. By using exercises taught in traditional field games, students will work on leadership skills, become better athletes and most importantly, let loose and have fun with friends. 

Floor Hockey 101 

SODE’s floor hockey introduces young players to Hockey. Aside from getting a great workout , building cardio and endurance, this class also focuses on hockey basics like “puck-handling”, skills , passing and shooting, followed by drills and finally, ending the class in a fun scrimmage. The emphasis of this class is teamwork and of course FUN! (SODE provides hockey helmets, shin guards and proper hockey equipment which is sanitized in between classes. Please bring a water bottle to each class.
