ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Sophie Olson's passion for dance ignited at a young age in her small French-Canadian farm town in Ontario, where she dreamt of becoming a dancer despite the limited dance schools nearby. Determined to pursue her passion, she danced across cow pastures and hockey fields until moving to the city to receive formal training. Her dedication and talent led to a successful twenty-year career as a professional dancer. However, Sophie discovered that her true love was choreography and education, prompting her to shift her focus and build a notable career in both fields.
Sophie’s extensive choreography credits include TV shows such as So You Think You Can Dance, Bless the Harts and New Girl for FOX as well as Ghost Ghirlz (Dir. Jeremy Konnor), and Total Pop Stars (Prod. Debbie Gibson) reality show. Her work also spans music videos for artists She and Him (Zooey Deschanel and M.Ward), Wheeler Walker Jr. and Yael Meyer, and theater/concert dance pieces such as Romeo and Juliet for A Noise Within and Raiding the Rock Vault pilot in Los Angeles. She has been recognized for her innovative choreography in Rolling Stones Magazines and throughout dance festivals like the Ignite Dance Festival in San Diego and Loomis Day Festival in Los Angeles. In 2012, she won Best Director and Best Choreographer at the Los Angeles Women’s Film Festival for her debut dance film, La Femme.Sophie Olson combines her passion for education and dance as the Artistic Director and Choreographer of Sophie Olson Dance Explosion, a contemporary hip-hop dance company celebrating seventeen years this September. Her commitment to the arts shines through her innovative body of work and steadfast dedication to dance and choreography. Sophie leverages the performing arts to create educational dance assemblies that engage younger audiences and craft immersive experiences, effectively bridging the gap between performance and reality.
